The hockey trainer of today is much more
than the person who simply hands out water bottles and tapes
sticks. The hockey trainer is a highly respected and important
part of any hockey team.
Hockey Trainer Certification
Program (HTCP) Level 1 - Online Course Now Available!
The HTCP - Level 1 is now available as
an online certification course. The HTCP Level 1 consists
of 16 modules and is the introductory level of the program
which introduces the participant to the principles of injury
and risk management.

Course Overview:
The full HTCP Level 1 course utilizes
the modules of the HTCP Level 1 content in use for the
current season and requires the participant to
successfully complete an exam before certification is
granted.
Guidelines & Considerations:
Eligibility: This
course is available to all participants. HTCP Level 1
certification is mandatory for all new team trainers.
Participants are required to complete each module in its
entirety.
Minimum Age Requirement:
Must be 16 years of age to be certified.
HDCO Trainer
Online E-Learning Refresher Course (Re-Certification)
Trainers' Certification expires every
three (3) years.
Course Overview:
The refresher course utilizes
the re-qualification modules of the HTCP Level 1 content in
use for the current season and requires the participant to
successfully complete an exam before certification is
granted.
Guidelines & Considerations:
Eligibility:
As of November 1, 2010, this course is available to
participants renewing their HTCP certification and whose
certification expires April 1, 2011 or greater.
Participants are required to complete each module in its
entirety.
Re:Certification:
As a minimum standard, participants must re-qualify by
successfully completing the Level 1 refresher program every
3 years.
Universal Expiry Date: August
31/year.
Online Examination requires 75%
passing grade.
All CYO bench personnel must supply an original Police security
check done by the Niagara Regional Police. It must have the
reference to “CYO Minor Hockey” on the form and be submitted no
later than November 30th of the current season. The security check
is be reviewed by the League Compliance Officer. The cost of the
police check report is the responsibility of the coach.
Police Checks must
be renewed every four (4) years.
To obtain a Police Check, please follow the procedures below.
Deadline is November 30th of the current season.

The
CYO Hockey Office will issue you a signed and witnessed Police
Check form, which can be picked up during regular scheduled hours.
Two pieces of ID are
required.

The two-sided completed form
must be signed and dated by the applicant and delivered to
the St. Catharines Police Department for processing. The fee
is $15.00 and must be paid at the police station.
- The Police Department
will instruct you as to when the Police Check will be ready
for pickup.
- After picking up your
completed Police Check from the Police Department, put it in
a sealed envelope and deliver it to the CYO Hockey Office
during regular scheduled hours. Original copy must be seen
by the Compliance Officer of the League.
